COLLECTION MANAGEMENT
Learning Resources contains more than 2,557,000 information resources to meet the curricular, scholarly, and recreational needs of students and faculty of St. Cloud State University and residents of Central Minnesota. Included in the collections are more than 200,000 publications of the U.S. government, more than 60,000 maps, more than 10,000 video tapes, numerous other audio-visual and multimedia resources, and subscriptions to more than 2,000 periodicals. All LR&TS information resources, except for older U.S. government publications, may be located by using MnPALS; most may be borrowed through Circulation or Interlibrary Loan.
LR&TS collections are managed by a Collection Management Committee, representing all areas of Learning Resources and Technology Services, that both establishes and follows the LR&TS Collection Management Policy. The committee is supported by the LR&TS College Liaison Teams with academic colleges and departments. Through the liaison teams, faculty in departments recommend appropriate books, serials, videos, audio discs, and electronic resources for acquisition or cancellation.
Requests for purchase may be submitted on the Learning Resources Book Request cards or the Learning Resources Non-Print Request forms. To request a journal or to request a subscription-based electronic resource, please contact Collection Management Coordinator Keith Ewing or the Acquisitions Coordinator Jo Flanders.
ARCHIVES
University Archives preserves the official records of and information about St. Cloud State University, as well as several other statewide organizations. Included are catalogs, yearbooks, and other SCSU publications. In addition, Archives is responsible for several special collections of manuscripts and artifacts.
ACQUISITIONS & PROCESSING
Acquisitions coordinates the purchase and processing of additions to Learning Resources collections, including books (monographs), reference resources, serials (journals, newspapers, etc.), CD-ROMs, videos, films, microforms, and electronic access to Internet resources.Acquisitions is also responsible for labelling, temporary binding and repair, preparation of bookbinding shipments of LR&TS materials to a vendor when necessary, and preparation of theses for microfilming.
CATALOGING
Unknown to most library users, Cataloging creates the physical and intellectual description and classification of items that allows information resources to be identified in the online catalog and located within the collections. The LR&TS Cataloging unit, while small, is extremely productive and is active in identifying and cataloging select digital resources available on the Web.
FACULTY AND STAFF
Faculty and staff of the Collection Services work outside the public eye to review and acquire information resources for LR&TS collections and provide appropriate and accurate ways of accessing LR&TS resources, including growing access to electronic media.
