Interlibrary Loan Lending Policy
(Lending to Other Libraries)

Purpose:

The purpose of this policy is to establish the principles of sending materials to other libraries.

The Interlibrary Loan office (ILL) at St. Cloud State University (SCSU) lends materials to libraries in all countries for a loan period of four weeks. All interlibrary loan (ILL) transactions are conducted library to library.

Definitions:

Interlibrary loan The process by which a library requests materials from, or supplies materials to, another library.

Policy:

Charges
The library at SCSU does not charge for interlibrary loans.

Shipping
ILL ships domestically and internationally to other libraries only via US Postal Service. ILL does not ship to individuals.

Materials Available for Loan
The following types of materials are available through interlibrary loan:
Articles
Books
Dissertations/Theses
Government documents
Microfilm (5 reels per request)
Microfiche

Materials Not Loaned
ILL staff has the authority to determine, on a case-by-case basis, items which are not suitable for interlibrary loan. These decisions are generally based on an item's physical condition. ILL does not loan complete periodical issues, reference books, rare items, audiovisual materials and some current-year imprints.

Lost Materials
Libraries will be asked to pay the replacement cost for the item(s) and a $10.00 processing fee for each item(s).

Procedures:

Patrons may submit ILL request in writing through OCLC, MnPALS, FAX, Ariel, e-mail, or ALA request form. Requests for loans cannot be submitted over the telephone.
