Getting Articles

You will find many full text articles in the library's databases. Or you may request a copy of an article to be delivered electronically or by mail. If you are unsure of where to begin your research, go to the Research Help page to get started.

Requesting Articles through Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

To request a print article that you have found in a database, use the online Interlibrary Loan form. If SCSU does not own the journal, we will request a copy from a library that does own it and we will deliver it to you (see below).

You must use your 14-digit library barcode number and password in order to request the article. Remember that the library barcode number is different from your other ID numbers. Your password is generally your last name or the first eight letters of your last name. The form must be properly completed with all necessary information in order for the request to process. Please indicate that you are a distance learner in the “Notes” section of the form. SCSU students are not charged for this service.

An average of two (2) to ten (10) working days is normally required to receive a borrowed item. It may take less time, or it may take longer for a variety of reasons such as mailing the article to your home address.

If you have any questions or problems, check the Interlibrary Loan page as there may be changes occurring in the system.

Electronic Delivery of Articles

If electronic delivery is available for the article, it will be sent directly to your HuskyNet email account. Please indicate that you are a distance learner in the “Notes” section of the form.

Mail Delivery of Articles

When you request an article through Interlibrary Loan, you may have a photocopy of the article delivered to your home. The library will pay for the cost of this delivery. You may keep the photocopy as it does not need to be returned to the library.

On the Interlibrary Loan form, you must indicate that you are a distance learner and would like delivery to your home in the "Notes" section of the form.

Article Databases

The Find an Article page provides links to the library's many article databases. The databases are organized by subject and by title. Select the subject area that you need and then choose a database that is most relevant to your subject. You may also select a database by title.

When you click on a database from off campus, you will be prompted to log on using your HuskyNet ID and password. If you haven't already done so, you will need to activate your HuskyNet account using your Tech ID number and PIN number.

Full Text Online Articles

When searching in the article databases, you may see a FindIt! link next to an article citation. FindIt! will link you directly to the online, full text article if it is available. When you find an article that you need, click on the FindIt! link and if it is available in full text, you will be sent to the appropriate database that contains that article.

The Periodical Title Availability list is searchable by journal title and will indicate if a journal is available in full text online, in what database and for what dates. If you find an article citation but you can't tell if the journal is available in full text, search for the journal title to determine its online availability.
