Richard Rubin author events: The Last of the Doughboys

Commemoration of WWI is being celebrated at St. Cloud State University with guest presenter Richard Rubin.  In 2003 author Richard Rubin searched for a veteran of World War One—“The Great War” and “The War to End All Wars”; he finally found one.  And then he found another, and yet another.  He found over 30 WWI veterans, aged from 101-113, and he interviewed them.  Sometimes he interviewed them 3 or 4 times.  His research led him across the United States and France.  He found information in archives, private collections, battlefields, literature, propaganda, and even music.  For 10 years he researched and wrote the book, “The Last of the Doughboys:  The Forgotten Generation and Their Forgotten World War,” released this past year by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Co.
