State Normal School Board Minutes, 1859 to 1898, now online
Tuesday, May 31, 2011
Thanks to a partnership with the Minnesota Digital Library, the minutes from the meetings of the Minnesota state normal school board, 1859 to 1898, are now online for access.
Several Minnesota state universities can trace their roots to 1858 (St. Cloud State, Minnesota State at Mankato, Winona State, Moorhead State, and University of Minnesota-Duluth). The Minnesota State Normal School board minutes, 1859 to 1898, provide first hand evidence of the establishment, evolution, and expansion of the state university system and its schools. The minutes detail the growth of the schools’ campuses, hiring and the resignations of faculty, staff, and school presidents, finances of the system and schools, curriculum, and establishment of St. Cloud State, Minnesota State at Mankato, Winona State, Moorhead State, and University of Minnesota-Duluth (which was a state college from 1902 to 1947).
The minutes can be viewed on the Minnesota Digital Library's web portal, Minnesota Reflections:
